Career Day is a one day event at HTHNC that happens for both the 9th and 10th grade. Students are tasked with getting in contact with someone who works in a position that they have interest in. Students have to contact these people on their own by writing 'Cold Emails' and 'Cold Calling' which is the act off calling someone you do not know and explaining your point to get what you need or want. The purpose of Career Day is to help students know what they really want to do by showing them hands on what it is like to work at their "Dream Job." For Career Day, I went to shadow at a small filming company called, "Emota" The company is a lot like a free lance company, they aren't apart of a giant company like some film companies. Businesses come to them and ask them to film and edit something together for them. They are given a set date and they don't get paid unless they hit that deadline. The work environment can be really stressful at times, but you have to think; what job doesn't have stressful aspects to it? They work at a small office in hill crest and there are a four man team.
A typical day at Emota goes one of three ways, each way depends one what happened the day before. Each day can either be a day of filming on site, getting as many clips as possible. If filming is done then days are spent editing and putting the clips together to create whatever the customer requested. If editing is done, the team at Emota go out advertising and getting better at what they do. They need to have a constant supply of customers or else they won't earn any money. Days that are spent editing clips together, employees can wear whatever they desire, but most of the time is spent wearing collared shirts and pants. When filming the team has to wear professional clothing, or the clothing that the customer requested they be in. The days that are spent getting their name out and getting more customers can very as if they are spending most of the day spreading their name through the internet. They will wear whatever is comfortable. If they are going out they will wear professional attire. Employees go in and out of their work place all the time, some come in really early to get work done and require breaks periodically, some work normal hours. One rare soul comes in around noon but gets an incredible amount of work done. They are very forgiving if you are sick, but if the main filmers and editors are sick then it is a cause for concern and both are required to come in
Getting better with group work and leadership will play a huge role in the future for everyone. Every job you will work at will involve some form of collaboration so that jobs can be finished quicker. Sometimes you need a variety of professionals to get one things done. If you cannot learn how to be a good collaborative person, it will be very difficult to keep a job or start a company. To work at this company and any similar company, they require you to have a bachelor's degree in Film Production or Film Editing or at least a few years of experience in one of the two positions.
I learned how important it is to develop friendships especially in the work area. If you can't be nice or even be friends with your co-workers, you won't be able to work with them well either. Trying to understand people, where they come from and how they act can come a long way. Of course, you don't have to be friends with all of your co-workers. But, if you aren't rude to them on a regular basis, you will find how much easier it is to work with them compared to if you were rude to them. It is a career I'm interested in if the career I'm pursuing goes down the drain. I want to begin my internship search looking at jobs that seem to be good fits in case I lose interest into the career I'm pursuing. I rather have more option than to focus all my energy onto one career. I like editing and producing films, it really does intrigue me. Pursuing it is iffy, I would take it as a job if I couldn't find anything else. There is only one job that I would prefer over film editing. I still have time to think about what to pursue. In years time, I could completely have flipped what I want to do. There are only two things I want to keep in mind next year. One, I have gotten some contacts with people that work in the career that I'm pursuing. Two, I need to start looking and sending emails sooner. Three, based on my experience with the people I shadowed this year, I also need to look through my email before I send it to make sure that everything is clear.

Interview Q&A
Q: How long have you and Terry(Co-Worker) been working together, how do you feel about the friendship between you two?
A: Terry and I have been working together, building up this company to what it is today for 11 years. I'm glad that I met the kind fella because I wouldn't be here without him. He is a great pal and I don't plan on having that change.
Q: Do you enjoy what you do at Emota?
A: I would say I'm one of the lucky people who actually enjoys their job. I'm not saying I'm the only who does, even I at points can really hate my job. Even if my job is that much fun and is rather stressful, it is how you feel and look at your job that makes you change how you feel. I look at my job and I just think in awe. It is just beautiful that I managed to get my own company up and running and still have it be strong for 11 years.
Q: What is your least favorite part about your job/career?
A: There isn't anything that I can specifically say I dislike about my job. There is a lot of good things about my job. Just knowing that I brought this company up with Terry warms my heart. It makes it difficult to hate my job because it was directly my choice on what I wanted to do. Well, every job has its flaws. If I had to choose one thing to remove about my job though, I would remove the moments where I felt bad. I wish I could come into work everyday and feel really happy knowing that nothing bad happened. No days where I'm mad and no days where I'm sad. It sucks though, these things are naturally occurring so I can't change them. I must say, it is impossible to skip bad days at work so just suck it up because the good days out weigh the bad. Even if you don't realize it.
