Re-Inventing Romeo & Juliet
Roller Coasters & Revolutions
This project had two subjects that were every aspect of this project. Romeo and Juliet and the Revolutions. We did a variety of things for Humanities, Physics, and Engineering. In humanities we spent our time analyzing one revolution per group. My group worked on the Russian Revolution. Each group member was assigned a different task in humanities. In the end, my group decided to do Song Design, Scenic Design, and Production. For song design, we had to find twelve Russian songs and write about what part of Romeo and Juliet it would play in and the reason why. The Physics and Engineering part of this project involved building one nineteenth of a marble roller coaster track. We were also tasked with building a section of a marble of track that is supposed to restart itself with the help of some motors. The section of each track had to symbolize our revolution. We created Russian protest signs for the art section of the coaster. We also made St. Basil's Cathedral and Winter's Palace as those were popular buildings that were around during the Russian Revolution.
I wasn't the lead of the scenic design. Getting it together was a very happy moment. When designing the scene we had so much room for creativity. It was so great to discuss about what to do for the simple things such as the pillars and the staircase. Putting everything together was just a small part of the entire project. Even though I wasn't in charge of it, it still felt like a huge accomplishment for completing with my project partner. I wasn't as proud as I thought I would have been while creating the production lists of actors. I was surprised based on how many famous actors were Russian. I even found some actors that I never knew were Russian, like Jack Black. Who happened to be Russian Jewish (called Ashkenazi Jewish). Being able to add him into to the list of actors made me very excited about the other actors I can possibly find. In the end, doing production was more fun that I expected.
3-5 sentence summary: What are ways that you and your group could improve what you presented during your design pitches and during the exhibition in the commons? What did not turn out the way you wanted it to turn out and why? How could it be better? We could have been a little more prepared. We didn't have much information about what our other group members did. The Russian Revolution information also got rather scrambled in the mess as we were panicking. We could have been a little more calm and we could have also kept the track the way it was so it would work. We took apart some supports and it messed up the entire track causing it to not be as presentable. We should have prepared a little more in our descriptions of what we did. I also wanted to play the songs that we had, but we couldn't because of some technical issues which made the overall Design Pitch very awkward for a little bit.
