The lab experience was something to say the least. There was a lot I didn't think through, and a lot that I should've done differently. First of, I didn't realize that my lab had a chance of not providing useful information. Much time was spent lost and confused, not knowing what steps to take next. I couldn't find good samples until late into the lab, even then it was only one sample of plant. I didn't collect more plants for one reason, I had no clue where to find other species. Some chemicals couldn't be tested as either they were a huge hazard by themselves or we couldn't buy them. If I could, I would have done a completely different lab. One that may prove to provide something to use.
Even with the mess, there was still some things that went well. I was able to help people with their experiments while I waited for mine to provide results. During the waiting period, I went around and observed others' labs and offered help whenever possible. My lab was expected to find data that plants can't handle chemical changes. Instead I found that most plants are significantly more resilient to change compared to animals. I personally was surprised to learn that plants are better at handling changes, but I was also heavily dissapointed.
I have to say, the one thing I definitely want to hold on to is; how fun this class was. What we learned and heard about was interesting to me, even if it isn't involved in what I want to go into. If I have any chemistry classes in the future (which I mostly likely will), the information here will be more than useful, it may help me get further along in the first class. To either catch up with peers or to speed ahead. I feel very confident that I will be able to retain the information that I learned this semester and apply them to the future. I can't really think of anything I would've done differently. Except, to do a different lab and to ask more questions
